Donation for advanced brain research
Our special—but not only—program facilitates body donation after Medical Aid in Dying, sometimes called Death with Dignity. Donation for this program has enormous value for science: by preserving the brain quickly, we can limit the damage to brain cells caused by the lack of oxygen. Please contact us if you are considering such a donation, as it requires planning. You may also pre-register and allow us to contact you.
Registration
Registration can take as little as 15 minutes. You can pre-register—this is ideal. You can donate your own body or the body of a person you are authorized to represent, such as a family member. A body can also be donated shortly after passing. Please do not hesitate to contact us; we understand that you may have unique needs or concerns, and we want to support your generous donation the best we can.
What we cover
We cover expenses related to donation, including transportation, cremation, and filing the death certificate. We welcome body donors regardless of medical condition—with the exception of some infectious diseases, to protect our staff and researchers.
For advanced brain research donations, we can also cover additional costs including the preparation of the body for viewing and forwarding it to a funeral home for burial or cremation.
Why donate to us?
We are facilitating innovative methods for neural system preservation. We focus on the brain because understanding how it works is one of the major scientific challenges for humanity. Body donation is an enormous help in addressing this challenge—and in developing better medical treatments for brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
